Book Manuscript Workshop

The Council for Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) in Northwestern University’s Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences invites proposals to participate in its third annual Book Manuscript Workshop.

This program, hosted in early August 2023 by CRES codirectors Nitasha Sharma (Asian American Studies, African American Studies) and John D. Marquez (Latina and Latino Studies, African American Studies), will assemble a group of scholars to read and provide feedback on an author’s book manuscript. We aim to workshop two first books written by untenured scholars. Reviewers of the manuscript will include the two CRES co-Directors, Nitasha Sharma and John Marquez; up to two external reviewers selected by the author and compensated by CRES; and an editor from a press to be selected by the author, also compensated by CRES. These workshops are intended to support faculty advancing the study of race and the field of Ethnic Studies by providing feedback to move these manuscripts toward successful publication.

*These workshops will be conducted via zoom. This format ensures the greater likelihood of participation by the outside senior scholars proposed by the applicant, as they may be more available via zoom than in person during the summer months.
